First, I’d like to begin with two apologies. To everyone who subscribed to my blog, I’m sorry you are not receiving the updates as promised. I thought I set everything up correctly, but apparently I did not. So, if anyone has experience integrating WordPress and MailChimp accounts, please send some advice my way!
Second, I’d like to apologize to the Great Lakes for completely underestimating their beauty for my whole entire life. Well, to be fair I have only seen Lake Michigan, but holy moly, it is magnificent! Who knew?! My bright and intelligent blog readers probably knew, but I certainly didn’t. I’m so glad I finally got the chance to experience this part of the country.
Indiana Dunes National Park was not part of our original itinerary. It just became an official National Park earlier this year, so it wasn’t in any of the books we were using to plan the trip. However, once we heard about it, we knew we had to find a way to fit it in. Originally, after Loiusville, we were going to stay in Chicago for a night, but a slight right turn and few more miles of driving would allow us to add this National Park to our list instead.
We started at the Visitor Center, and as you can see, the official National Park sign isn’t even mounted yet. That didn’t stop us from taking a photo (can you spot the pout pout fish in this pic?!). After that, we headed to Lake Michigan to check things out. We had planned to do the 3-Dune Challenge hike, but we couldn’t tear ourselves away from the beach; we were having too much fun!
The water was clear, flat calm, and not too cold at all. The beach had beautiful rocks and pebbles, some driftwood, and I even found a piece of sea glass!
We were all so thankful to have a day to swim, explore, and just relax.
It would have been great to experience a dune hike, but Lake Michigan and the beach made for a pretty incredible day.
