Visiting Great Basin National Park definitely wasn’t my idea. First, it is really out of the way of EVERYTHING (you take “The Lonliest Road in America” to get to it), and second, I haven’t ever heard very much about it (probably due to my first point). Brian, however, convinced me that we should add it to our itinerary because “when will we ever be in that area of the country again (meaning the middle of nowhere) and it’s not THAT far away”. Okay… convinced.
Driving in, as well as feeling lonely (haha… seriously though, it’s really bad), I was impressed! The landscape was gorgeous.
We arrived in the afternoon and were able to get a campsite in the Park at Baker Creek Campground. It was beautiful and private, and we loved the sound of the river nearby.
We chose a fun, easy hike to stretch our legs. We took the Baker Creek Trail to the Pole Canyon Trail. It was perfect for the boys – bridges, water crossings, rocks to jump on – everything they love. We walked to the trailhead from the campground.
The boys found walking sticks… score!
A little log jumping to end the hike!
It was a fun couple of hours before we settled in to make dinner and celebrate our little guy turning 5! Oh, but first, we ran into this guy who was NOT happy to see us!
Dax woke up to balloons and gifts, and ended the night with cupcakes by the creek in Great Basin National Park.
